Grief: An Expression of Love
Grief arrives, uninvited.
It is unpredictable, intense and overwhelming,
coming in waves that do subside, only to build and crash again.
Grief leaves us lost, creating a gulf between where we were and where we now are. It forges its own path and leads us in a different direction to the one we perhaps thought we’d take.
As we journey,
Grief shows it’s contradictions;
convincing us we’re alone whilst uniting us to others,
giving moments of clarity in the midst of confusion,
causing us to run away and to run home,
to push others aside and to draw them close.
Grief holds us back and drives us on,
until eventually it releases its grip a little,
reminding us perhaps more gently of those memories
and moments that have made us who we are.
In this moment Grief speaks,
it finds a voice and asks to be heard
as it offers to guide us, remind us and help us
to see that Grief is more than the pain we feel,
it is an expression of love and love always finds a way.
