Grief Aware™ Course
Grief Aware™ is a free, five-session bereavement support course for those who have been bereaved or for those supporting someone who has.
The course runs both as an ‘in-person’ course and as an ‘online’ course.
The ‘in-person’ course runs for five, consecutive weeks and each session lasts for around an hour and a half. We seek to create a relaxed and informal atmosphere where there are opportunities to share experiences, listen to each other and to learn in a safe and welcoming environment.
Explore. Reflect. Restore. Remember.
Each of the five sessions follow the same ‘explore, reflect, restore’ format, designed to support you as you navigate grief.
Explore: over the five weeks we talk about what grief is and think about the purpose of grieving, we look at some theories of grief and consider whether they make sense in reality and we spend some time identifying the varied factors that are all a normal response to grief.
Reflect: we create space each week for those that wish to share personal experiences and/or for personal reflection about the ideas and concepts presented
Restore: we use our unique ‘Coaching Triangle’ to identify useful tools for navigating the grief journey in a healthy way.
Grief Aware™ Online
We recognise that not everyone is available during the day when our in-person course runs and that some people find it easier to connect online for a variety of reasons.
The ‘online’ course follows the same content as the ‘in person’ course and, like the ‘in-person’ course, allows you the opportunity to journey with your grief alongside others who are journeying with grief too.
The course is led by Deb, our experienced Grief Coach, who, over the course of five sessions, guides you through some concepts, theories and ideas that are designed to help you reflect on your own story and find ways to grieve well.
To join the ‘online’ course, you will need:
Access to Teams and to WhatsApp
To be available to join five consecutive sessions (Wednesday evening’s, 7-8pm)
To be willing to contribute as and when you can to group discussions via WhatsApp
To find time and space to reflect on the core concepts using the Grief Aware workbook
Over the five sessions we will:
Explore: Deb will share concepts and ideas about what Grief is and the impact it has as well as offer some direction for the ‘restore’ aspects of the course.
Reflect: Each week four questions will be posed based on the ‘explore’ concepts. The WhatsApp group will provide a forum for discussing these questions during the week.
Restore: Each week there will be a section of the workbook to complete as and when you feel ready. This section relates to our unique ‘Coaching Triangle’ which provides healthy and practical ways to cope with grief.
We want everyone to be able to access the support they need and so therefore we do not charge for any of our courses. However, we do encourage those who are in a position to do so to donate towards the Grief Aware™ project.
